American Airlines became acquainted with the activist that is Opal Lee in 2021 through our annual Juneteenth Jubilee. It was this same year that Ms. Opal would go on to join President Biden for the official signing of the Juneteenth National Freedom Act Bill achieving her goal of Juneteenth recognition as a National Holiday in the US. As a native of Texas I have come to understand the significance of this holiday at a young age celebrating with my family in Cuero, TX for as long as I can recall. We need to continue to amplify Freedom Day and walk in unity to keep with the mission of lifting one another up by leaving our community in better shape then when we came.
